‘Expressing Gratitude Matters’ by Principal Robin Jones of Chief Ivan Blunka School

While there are many advantages to working in the field of education, educators often communicate that they do not feel adequately appreciated for the extraordinary work they do. Recognizing that thankfulness is an important value and an often simple expression can make a significant difference, we have started a movement of deliberately spreading the practice of gratitude. With staff, we devote professional development time toward expressing gratitude and this effort helps us develop strong teamwork, build relational trust, and boost staff morale. With students, we have empowered athletic teams to not only take the utmost care of schools when visiting for sporting events but also to leave thank you cards for those homeroom teachers and administrators who are donating their time, school facilities, and classrooms for these unique opportunities.

Staff and students at Chief Ivan Blunka School take time each week to express gratitude to someone in their school or community.

We have already started to see the relationship building benefits of these efforts and will continue to express thankfulness, because gratitude matters, and it is #TheEagleWay!
