The Our Alaskan Schools blog is excited to host our second student blog post. This post comes to us from four middle school/high school students at Rampart School in the Yukon-Koyukuk School District. We are excited for this opportunity to share the exciting things happening in Rampart from the perspective of these amazing student-journalists!

Last year, Rampart was selected as one of two communities in Alaska to participate in a pilot water purification program. This program provides an easy and affordable way to access clean water by making a water filter for you and your family. The project is called Village Safe Water and is a part of the Water Division for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (dec.alaska.gov/water.aspx). ‘A Love Letter To The First Day of School in Alaska’ by Sam Jordan at ASDN

Across Alaska this month schools from Metlakatla to Utqiaġvik are welcoming students back to the 2019-2020 school year. These first few days are a special time. Students are being welcomed back by communities of educators who are excited and expectant about the year to come.

‘In Valdez, Career Pathways Can Begin at the Swimming Pool’ by Superintendent Shawn Arnold

“I Believe I Can Do Math!” – Fairbanks Summer Math Camp by Mentor Teacher Samantha Wuttig

This June in Fairbanks about 50 middle school students participated in a three week Summer Math Camp. This year’s camp focused on encouraging students to notice and wonder, to see different ways patterns grow, to persevere in solving problems, and to believe in themselves.
